I was at a party the other night and something rather amusing happened.
I was talking to this guy who I went to school with but haven't seen in
a while. We were just catching up, talking about what we're doing now
work-wise. And about half way through the conversation, the girl
standing next to him with her back toward us (she was talking to other
people) reaches out and grabs his hand and gives it a squeeze. They
continue holding hands each in their own separate conversations,
despite the rather awkward angle. The girl, I intuited, was his
girlfriend. And after another minute she turned around to face us and
kind of snuggled up to him. She didn't say anything at all.
I
found this so funny because it was so obvious to me that she was
basically marking her territory without literally proclaiming "he's
mine bitch. Step off." It was pretty classic. Not to say that I haven't
ever done something like that. I'm sure I have, though I like to think
I'm usually a secure enough person not to play those kinds of games.
But everyone does it from time to time. I felt like I should invite her
to join the conversation so perhaps she would perceive me as less of a
threat. Although I have to admit I was a little nervous by stern presence, so I was probably a bit more awkward than usual. So I asked she and the guy how they knew each other, to which
she replied "I'm his girlfriend." Oy. "Yes, I figured. I meant where
did you guys meet... Did you go to NYU too?" Her response was just "No,
we're from the same home town." "Oh, cool. So what do you do." "I work
in publishing." She clearly had no interest in talking to me so I
politely excused myself to go find another friend of mine. It was
really awkward.
And since I haven't shared a song with you guys in a while, I thought I would post this very fitting song by
Meiko called "Boys with Girlfriends."

I hate that. Sometimes, I interject myself into a conversation that my boyfriend is having with another person, particularly if I don't know that person, but that's just because I'm an attention whore, not because I'm jealous or just want the other person (male or female!) to leave.
I guess all you can do is leave it alone and talk to him when he's alone or single again. Sorry, I know it sucks to lose a friend that way, but it's ultimately his decision.
that is really awkward lol - what a snot
i loooooooooove the song.
