  • Reminders

    The hardest part, for me, about breaking up is the reminders. When people are a part of your life for a significant amount of time, it’s only natural that different things are going to start reminding you of them. And that’s the thing that makes it hardest to move on - you  know, the song that comes on the radio that reminds you of that time you were in the car together on your way to such and such significant event and you both started belting your hearts out. Or that certain phrase he uses all the time that no one else really uses until one day someone does and your heart actually skips a beat because it’s really jarring. Or the cologne he wears (that’s a big one… smell is such an encompassing sense).

    They say time heals everything but these are things that take a lot longer to fade (if they ever do, though most of the time the things that don’t fade at least become less popular in culture so you encounter them less). Music tends to be the biggest one for me. I always associate songs with various people and times in my life. Speaking of music, here is a song that describes this feeling perfectly (and coincidentally reminds me of my ex because we saw the Dresden Dolls on New Year's Eve together):
